Dear Guest,

During this challenging time, we offer our gratitude to the health workers and others on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic. We also send wishes for healing to those who are sick, and our deepest condolences to families who have experienced loss.

We are especially grateful to grocery retailers, some of whom have been our partners for many years, for their service in providing food and other critical supplies.

I also want to take this opportunity to offer our appreciation to our funders and many colleagues around the world, as we all face the daily impacts that the virus is having on our lives and communities. I’m also thankful that our FishWise staff is able to work from home, where they continue to engage in transforming the global seafood market to regenerate the oceans and promote safe and fair livelihoods. FishWise was founded on an optimistic vision of the world in which all living beings and ecosystems thrive. We hold that vision even now.

Wishing you health,

Tobias Aguirre

We Want to Hear From You!

We are on a mission to help make social responsibility easier for seafood companies. We have ideas about how to drive progress, but we recognize that collaboration creates the most impact! We have designed a survey to better understand the opportunities and constraints faced by seafood companies as they work to assess and address human and labor rights violations in their supply chains. PLEASE take this quick survey--it should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
*Please note: All responses will be aggregated and kept completely anonymous.

Fishing for Gender Equality

One of the ways that FishWise staff celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8 was by contributing to the #EachforEqual campaign. Together, we can build a gender equal world and we invite you to be part of creating and supporting the solutions. Learn more with our recent blog.

Traceability in the Philippines

Amy West and Brynn O'Donnell from the Seafood Alliance for Legality and Traceability (SALT)—FishWise's project that promotes seafood transparency—recently returned inspired by their travels to the Philippines. They interviewed participants in a pilot to learn about the electronic catch documentation and traceability system created for the Philippines tuna fishery. Thank you USAID Oceans & Fisheries Partnership for the warm welcome! Stay tuned for lessons learned from the trip in upcoming SALT work.

New Traceability Standards

An amazing milestone for the seafood industry was announced earlier this week with the launch of the Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability's new traceability standards. Companies can turn to this aligned industry guidance to confidently collect and share key data for their sustainable seafood needs. For more information, visit the GDST 1.0 standards

This is FishWise's vision. We invite you to be a part of taking us all closer to making this vision a reality.
